Transneft Kama Region Conducts Repairs at Oil Trunk Pipeline in Republic of Tatarstan

On 23 June 2021 at 03.58 (Moscow time), a change in in-line pressure of a section of the Almetyevsk – Gorky-3 oil trunk pipeline (OTP) was recorded by Transneft Kama Region’s automated system for monitoring of the oil pipeline operating parameters. To prevent the oil release, the OTP’s operation within this section was stopped, oil was pumped out of it. During the inspection of the OTP, in close proximity of the Mikhailovka oil pumping station (PS) located in Chistopol District of the Republic of Tatarstan, within the pipeline protected zone, the company’s employees found traces of oil contamination at a 7x7 metres section. The total volume of released oil was less than 4 m3.  

Emergency response teams of the Romashkino Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate of Transneft Kama Region promptly arrived at the site of the oil contamination. The soil is is currently being cleaned. Routine repairs to restore the oil pipeline section will be carried out within 36 hours. 

There is no possibility of oil getting into water areas. The situation poses no danger to the environment and will not affect consumers. There is no threat to the life and health of the public. Environmental monitoring is going on at the place of works. The causes of the incident are being determined.
