On 13 March 2020, near Karpovka Village in Pestrechinsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, a person suspected of oil theft from the Kholmogory – Klin oil trunk pipeline (OTP) was caught red-handed.

The detention was carried out by law enforcement officers together with employees of the North-Western Interregional Directorate of Departmental Security branch of Transneft Security Services.

The theft of oil from the OTP was carried out through an illegal tapping with an offshoot more than 3 km long, running towards a former goose farm. On the territory of the farm, there were two rubber-fabric containers, which contained about 100 m3 of stolen oil. The suspect was a tenant of the farm premises. Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him under article 158, paragraph 3 (Theft) of the Criminal Code in connection with the theft of crude oil.

The criminal tapping into the OTP was eliminated by Transneft Kama Region employees. Currently, investigations aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the oil theft are being carried out at the crime scene.
